increase was due to deep discounts (especially
for autos) and the good weather.

good measure of manufacturing activities
in the district, dropped 12 points in January.
This is the fourth straight monthly drop.

PICKS FOR THE NEXT MARKET DAY
REASONS
BEHIND THE PICKS
-
Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan's

PICKS FOR THE NEXT MARKET DAY
REASONS
BEHIND THE PICKS
-
Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan's
testimony to the Senate will be the deciding
factor tomorrow. Period. The market seems
to be unwilling to get out of its rot as
layoffs, earnings warnings, and never ending
flow of bad economic news continues to deter
consumers and businesses from spending.
The market is hoping for (and rightly do
need) a signal here to take it further in
the next coming weeks.
